2009 Professional Standards - Jeff’s Number Crunch

This article provides a year-end summary of Professional Standards cases and inquiries received by the Greater Albuquerque Association of REALTORS® in 2009.

The first chart provides a high-level overview of filed cases and their outcomes or current status.

Overall, the number of arbitration requests and ethics complaints have been somewhat lower than the previous 3 years, and the mediation requests have risen each year for the past 4 years (up 31.25% in 2009 from previous year).

In addition to filed cases, the Professional Standards Office tracks inquiries related to ethics and arbitration matters. In 2009, the recorded public-to-public inquiries were 41; of those inquiries, there were 10 mediation requests (24.4%) filed to resolve primarily earnest money and disclosure issues. Of the 144 inquiries received in 2009 related to ethics concerns, there were 15 formal Ethics Complaints filed with the Association (or 10.4% of concerns raised). Of the 24 inquiries related to arbitration matters, there were 6 Arbitration Requests (25%) and 11 Mediation Requests (45.8%) filed with the Association.
