2016 GAAR Good Neighbor Award Recipients

Good Neighbors are REALTORS® and Affiliates that dedicate themselves to volunteer service. They donate gifts, money, and – most importantly –  a lot of time to their charity. 

This is the second year GAAR has held the Good Neighbor Awards for our members and we are very excited to announce the recipients.

Jackie Bregman of Bregman Real Estate for her work with Southwest Women’s Law Center.

The Southwest Women’s Law Center (SWLC) is a non-profit policy and advocacy law center working to improve the economic status of women and girls in the State of New Mexico. SWLC’s vision is to harness the power of law, research, and creative collaborations to change these realities and to create greater opportunities for women and girls in New Mexico to fulfill their personal and economic potential.

Jackie has served on SWLC’s Board of Directors and various committees and has been instrumental in increasing the charity’s awareness through social media, public relations and fundraising.

Morgan Cannaday-Hansen for Ida Kelley Realty for her work with Heading Home.

Heading Home’s mission is to make experiences of homelessness rare, short-lived and non-recurring. The non-profit’s programs include Albuquerque Heading Home, Vets Heading home, the Albuquerque Opportunity Center men’s emergency shelter and Keeping Families Together.

Morgan chairs two committees at Heading Home. The first of which is the Storytellers Committee which showcases the stories of the people that have experienced homelessness in our community. The important goal of this committee is to change society’s perception of our community’s homeless population as well as expand awareness and fundraise for the charity. Her second committee is the Hacienda Ball Committee which is their largest fundraiser – and a partner with the Greater Albuquerque Association of REALTORS®.

Yvonne Oselio of ReMax Pros for her work with Children’s Miracle Network at UNM’s Children Hospital.

UNM Children's Hospital is proud to be New Mexico’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital since the initial founding in 1983. It not only provides the finest care to children, but also participates in research and community outreach to touch millions of children suffering from diseases and injuries of every kind.

All funds raised through the Children's Miracle Network program at UNM Children's Hospital are unrestricted meaning that the donated funds are used where the hospital needs it the most.  These funds are primarily used for the purchase of medical equipment and funding programs at UNM Children's Hospitals.

Yvonne has volunteered for the Children’s Miracle Network for the past 9 years, ensuring ReMx Pros is Miracle Office and has inspired other REALTORS® to become Miracle Agents.

Rosemary Freelin of Sunrise Realty for her work with Rio Grande Valley Blue Star Mothers.

The Rio Grand Valley Blue Star Mothers is a local 501©3 organization dedicated to supporting and remembering the men and women who have served or are currently serving in all branches of our military and their families. Blue Star Mothers remember our service personnel with care packages sent through the year to our deployed worldwide.

In addition to welcoming home our returning service men and women at the airport, Blue Star Mothers support our Veterans, Veteran’s Memorials and remember our Fallen Heroes with Wreaths Across America.

Rosemary has volunteered for Blue Star Mothers for over 9 years, raising close to $10,000 for her charity and giving hundreds of hours of her time each year to support their mission.

Rachel Donavan of VanDyk Mortgage for her work with the Albuquerque Regional Community Chaplain Corps.

The Albuquerque Regional Community Chaplain Corps (ARCCC) is made up of chaplains who are specially trained men and women prepared to help meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of victims during natural and man-made disasters and in times of other crisis (i.e. death, suffering, loneliness, etc.). 

The purpose of the ARCCC is to supply Chaplains who bring a ministry of presence and appropriately share comfort and hope and resources with those affected by crisis.  The ARCCC is composed of ordained Chaplains who are credentialed by the International Fellowship of Chaplains (IFOC) a 501c3 organization. ARCCC has been an operating corps of the IFOC since December 2009.

As one of GAAR’s most active Affiliate Members, Rachel has been the driving force behind our successful Make A Difference Day and is a volunteer chaplain for the Bernalillo County Fire Department and many other community groups to numerous to mention.

Recipients will also receive a $500 grant for their charity at the Annual Meeting, will be featured in GAAR's 2017 consumer outreach campaign and will be featured, along with their charity, on a segment of 2 KASA Style Morning Show.
