Advocacy is at the heart of what REALTORS® do.
From City Hall to Capitol Hill, your Association works every day to protect private property rights, promote homeownership, and ensure the real estate industry remains strong and sustainable for our members and their clients.
REALTOR® advocacy is strictly nonpartisan—focused not on political parties or ideology, but on sound policies and informed decision-making that strengthen housing, property rights, and the economic vitality of our communities.
National: The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR)
At the federal level, NAR advocates for REALTORS® and property owners across the country. NAR monitors legislation and regulations that impact real estate on a national scale—from tax policy and fair housing to mortgage finance and environmental regulation.
Through the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and Federal Political Coordinators, NAR builds relationships with members of Congress to ensure that real estate has a strong, unified voice in Washington, D.C. Learn more here.
State: The New Mexico Association of REALTORS® (NMAR)
At the state level, NMAR represents REALTORS® before the Governor’s Office, the Legislature, and state agencies.
The REALTORS® Political Action Committee of New Mexico (RPAC-NM) supports pro-real-estate candidates and issues—not based on political affiliation, but on their commitment to protecting property rights and promoting a healthy housing market.
Trustees for RPAC-NM’s Central District collaborate closely with local REALTOR® associations, including GAAR, to coordinate advocacy priorities and campaign support. Their work ensures that New Mexico’s real estate professionals have a consistent and respected presence in state policymaking.
Local: The Greater Albuquerque Association of REALTORS® (GAAR)
Locally, GAAR represents members’ interests before city and county governments through the Real Estate Community Political Action Committee (RECPAC).
RECPAC Trustees—comprised of six GAAR members and three from the Commercial Association of REALTORS® New Mexico (CARNM)—carefully evaluate local candidates and issues based on their understanding of housing, property rights, and responsible growth.Their focus is on ensuring policies that foster balanced development, fair housing practices, and community vitality.
RECPAC also helps REALTORS® engage directly with policymakers through candidate forums, community roundtables, and advocacy events that build mutual understanding and trust between the real estate industry and local officials.
