City, Rockefeller Foundation kick in $400K for employment training program

The city of Albuquerque and The Rockefeller Foundation are kicking in $400,000 to expand the skills-based hiring program TalentABQ, the mayor's office announced Monday.

The Albuquerque City Council approved $200,000 in fresh funding for the program last week, and The Rockefeller Foundation is matching that commitment.

The Talent ABQ program is run by Innovate+Educate, a national nonprofit based in Santa Fe that's a leader in developing strategies to address the skills gap that limits employment opportunity and advancement.

Albuquerque is one of 21 U.S. cities that has committed to a White House Tech Hire initiative with a goal of opening up jobs that require IT skills of workers. The funding for Talent ABQ is a result of that commitment and will be targeted towards helping young adults who traditionally face more limited employment opportunities.
