2025 GAAR Good Neighbor highlights the life-changing impact of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico

Community service is at the heart of the REALTOR® spirit, and 2025 GAAR Good Neighbor Award recipient Jeff Gorum recently had the opportunity to share that message with viewers across New Mexico.

Jeff appeared on New Mexico Living alongside Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico to discuss the organization's mission and the life-changing impact of mentorship. The television segment highlighted why Jeff was selected as a 2025 GAAR Good Neighbor and how one volunteer can make a lasting difference in the life of a young person.

As a volunteer mentor, or "Big," Jeff is matched one-on-one with a young person through Big Brothers Big Sisters' community-based mentoring program. Beyond mentoring, he also supports fundraising events, community partnerships, and outreach efforts that help expand opportunities for children and families throughout New Mexico.

During the interview, Jeff spoke about the importance of showing up consistently for the young people in the program. While mentorship can begin with something as simple as spending time together, those relationships often build confidence, create stability, and help young people see new possibilities for their future.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico serves children facing a variety of life challenges by connecting them with caring adult mentors who provide encouragement, guidance, and positive role models. The organization's mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that help young people reach their full potential.

Jeff's volunteer efforts earned him one of GAAR's 2025 Good Neighbor Awards, a REALTOR® Fund initiative that recognizes REALTORS® and Affiliate members who dedicate their time, talents, and leadership to improving our community. In addition to the recognition, each Good Neighbor directs a $1,000 REALTOR® Fund grant to the nonprofit organization they serve.
