Step Into Leadership: The New 2027 NAR Committee Application Process Is Open

The National Association of REALTORS® has officially launched its 2027 committee application cycle, and this year comes with a refreshed, more intentional approach. Designed to improve transparency and better match members with leadership opportunities, the updated process reflects a shift toward expertise-driven selection and stronger governance.

If you have ever considered getting involved at the national level, this is not just another application cycle. It is a more strategic pathway to leadership.

What’s New for 2027

This year’s updates center around one core idea: aligning the right people with the right roles.

  • A brand-new Expertise Profile is now required for all applicants. Previous profiles will not carry over, and members will be expected to review and update their profile annually moving forward.
  • Applications are more specialized, with tailored, open-ended questions designed to highlight your knowledge and experience in specific subject areas.
  • Endorsements now focus on experience, not relationships, giving reviewers a clearer picture of your qualifications and contributions.
  • Separate applications for leadership roles, such as vice chair positions, place greater emphasis on leadership experience and committee-specific expertise.

Together, these changes create a more thoughtful and merit-based process that helps ensure every committee is built with purpose.

What to Expect When You Apply

The application experience is more structured, but also more meaningful. Here is how it works:

  1. Complete Your Expertise Profile
This is your foundation. Think of it as your professional snapshot. You will outline your background, specialties, and leadership experience, giving NAR leadership a clear understanding of where you bring value.
  2. Submit Your Application
You can apply to up to five committees, each with its own set of tailored questions. This allows you to align your interests and expertise with multiple opportunities while showcasing depth in each area.
  3. Secure Endorsements
Applicants may include three endorsements from peers or association staff. These endorsements now carry more weight when they reflect your actual experience and qualifications rather than just familiarity.
Key Dates to Know
  • Applications Open: April 1, 2026
  • Application Deadline: June 24, 2026

Planning ahead is essential. Gathering endorsements and refining your responses will take time, and strong applications are built, not rushed.

The Value Behind Getting Involved

NAR committees play a critical role in shaping policies, programs, and the direction of the real estate industry. With more than 90 committees, advisory boards, and forums, these groups influence everything from advocacy to MLS standards to member services.

Serving on a committee is not just about participation. It is about representation. It is where ideas turn into action and where industry professionals help guide what comes next.

A More Intentional Path to Leadership

This updated process makes one thing clear: NAR is focused on building leadership that reflects real experience, diverse perspectives, and meaningful contributions. It is less about who you know and more about what you bring to the table.

If you have been waiting for the right time to get involved, this is it.

Start your profile, think strategically about where you can contribute, and take that next step into leadership.
