The November General Election is approaching, and now is a good time for New Mexicans to make sure they are ready to participate.

National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, September 15, a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to encourage eligible voters to register, check their registration status, and make sure their information is current. New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver is encouraging New Mexicans to use the day as a reminder to verify their voter information ahead of the 2026 General Election.

The 2026 General Election is Tuesday, November 3.

For the 2026 General Election, New Mexico’s standard voter registration deadline is Tuesday, October 6, 2026, which is 28 days before Election Day. The Secretary of State states that voter registration closes 28 days before an election.

That deadline applies to the regular registration process, including online registration and registration by mail. New Mexico’s Same-Day Voter Registration provides an additional option during early voting and on Election Day,

Check Your Voter Registration

Even if you are already registered, take a few minutes to confirm that your name, address, and other voter information are correct. Your registered address determines which districts, candidates, judicial races, and ballot questions appear on your ballot.

Through the New Mexico Secretary of State's NMVOTE portal, voters can:

  • Register to vote online
  • Check or update voter registration information
  • Request an absentee ballot
  • View a sample ballot for the upcoming election
  • Find County Clerk information and voting resources

New Mexico also offers Same-Day Voter Registration, allowing eligible voters to register or update their registration at designated voting locations during early voting and on Election Day.

What's on the Ballot in 2026?

The 2026 General Election includes races at the federal, state, district, judicial, and county levels. Statewide, New Mexicans will vote for U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Auditor, State Treasurer, Commissioner of Public Lands, and all 70 seats in the New Mexico House of Representatives. Other district-specific offices and judicial contests will also appear depending on where a voter lives.

Closer to home, several important county offices are also on the ballot across the Greater Albuquerque area. According to the New Mexico Secretary of State's 2026 election information, these include:

Bernalillo County
County Commissioner Districts 1 and 5, County Assessor, County Sheriff, County Probate Judge, and Metropolitan Court judicial races and retention elections.

Sandoval County
County Commissioner Districts 1 and 3, County Assessor, County Sheriff, County Probate Judge, and Magistrate Judge Divisions 1, 2, and 3.

Valencia County
County Commissioner Districts 1 and 3, County Assessor, County Sheriff, County Probate Judge, and Magistrate Judge Divisions 1, 2, and 3.

Torrance County
County Commissioner Districts 1 and 2, County Assessor, County Sheriff, County Probate Judge, and Magistrate Judge.
