As the U.S. continues to recover from the economic downturn, it's clear there have been some winners and losers across states and cities. While some parts of the country have experienced considerable economic uptick, other areas are far worse off and struggling.

A new report by the Economic Innovation Group, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit research and advocacy organization, shows the recovery is felt differently depending on where you live, all the way down to ZIP codes.

For example in San Antonio, Texas, half of the city is considered prosperous while the other half is far from recovered. Using a "distress score" that shows the most distressed communities (a score 100) the southern part of the city has a score of 97.8, while the northern area is at 0.5.

The Albuquerque metro area doesn't have quite the same economic divide, but some areas of the city are still quite different than others. The Distressed Communities Index considers a score of 80 and higher to be in distress.

The "least distressed" area of the Albuquerque metro, according to the report, is ZIP code 87144 in Rio Rancho, with a score of 7.7. The most distressed area is in the Downtown ZIP code of 87102, with a score of 91.9.

The index looked at seven metrics, including changes in unemployment and business establishments between 2010 and 2013, median income relative to the state, poverty rates, housing vacancy rates, and the percentage of the population that isn't working and doesn't have a high school diploma. The data comes from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey and other Census data.

Bernalillo County as a whole fared perhaps as expected, with a distress score of 31.7. Sandoval County's score is 10.1, while Santa Fe County's score was 5.9. Click here to read the full article.
