NMAR’s 2026 Legislative Session Homepage

As the 2026 New Mexico Legislative Session gets underway, NMAR is on the front lines representing the interests of property owners and real estate professionals across the state.

Through its Government Affairs Director and dedicated Legislative Committee, NMAR reviews and monitors all housing-related bills, providing expert insight and advocating for policies that support homeownership, private property rights, and a strong real estate market. Whether it's addressing housing affordability, property taxes, or tenant-landlord laws, NMAR ensures the voice of real estate is heard at the Roundhouse.

As of January 20, more than 90 bills have already been introduced or pre-filed, with reports showing a total of around 108 anticipated early in the session. Key focus areas include the state budget and several high-priority legislative topics, housing & affordability being one of them.

The NMAR Legislative Committee is actively monitoring nine (9) pre-filed bills, although no action has been taken on them yet. As the committee reviews and determines positions on legislation, updates will be shared in this Legislative Bulletin.
