Christopher Shain Tanner Selected for NAR’s 2027 Leadership Academy

GAAR Past President is one of just 20 REALTORS® nationwide selected for the prestigious leadership program

GAAR is proud to congratulate Christopher Shain Tanner on his selection to the National Association of REALTORS® 2027 Leadership Academy, an intensive national program designed to prepare emerging REALTOR® leaders for future leadership positions within the association.

Tanner is one of only 20 REALTORS® from across the country selected for the 2027 class and the only participant representing New Mexico. The class represents 16 states and brings together REALTORS® with an average of more than 13 years of real estate experience.

Building Leadership at Every Level

The NAR Leadership Academy is a 10-month program that gives participants an in-depth look at NAR's history, structure and operations while developing the skills needed to serve effectively at the local, state and national levels. Participants also collaborate on a capstone project focused on applying what they have learned to challenges facing the association and real estate industry.

The program has a strong track record of developing REALTOR® leaders. Since its creation in 2008, more than 300 participants have graduated. Among those alumni, more than 160 have gone on to chair an NAR committee or volunteer group, 98 have served as state association presidents and 39 have served as NAR regional vice presidents.

Tanner's selection continues a leadership journey that has included serving as 2025 GAAR President and representing Greater Albuquerque and New Mexico through REALTOR® leadership and involvement. Most recently, Tanner was elected to serve as New Mexico Association of REALTORS® (NMAR) Central District Vice President in 2027, further extending his service from the local level to statewide leadership.

For Tanner, that commitment to leadership is rooted in a much broader philosophy of service.

"I am truly honored. My twenty years in the US Air Force taught me what leadership really is. It is service. My faith as a Christian is my foundation. And I have had mentors and leaders who believed in me and showed me the way when I could not see it myself. I believe a rising tide lifts all ships. I am here to help others grow and support them in their growth," Tanner said.

His participation in the NAR Leadership Academy adds another national dimension to that journey. The experience will provide opportunities to strengthen connections among local, state and national REALTOR® organizations while bringing new perspectives and ideas back to the members and communities he serves.

"Through the Leadership Academy they will build on NAR's proud tradition of service by preparing to lead at the local, state and national levels," said NAR President Kevin Brown in announcing the class.

The 2027 NAR Leadership Academy begins in January and concludes in November at NAR NXT.
