This course introduces the principles of smart growth and sustainability and their impact on quality of life, community development, and real estate. Through discussions and case studies, students examine the benefits of smart growth, the barriers to sustainable development, and the rising demand for walkable, affordable, and eco-friendly neighborhoods. Key topics include housing affordability, shifting consumer preferences, and practical tools such as walking audits and Better Block events. By the end, students gain actionable insights and resources to support sustainable community growth.
Instructor:
Nate K. Johnson is President of Real Estate Solutions Group at Redkey Realty Leaders, leading a top-performing residential team and overseeing agent development. A nationally recognized speaker and NAR-certified instructor, he teaches Smart Growth, commercial real estate, buyer representation, and more. Nate is a past President of the St. Louis and Missouri Associations of REALTORS® and has held national leadership roles in sustainability and public policy. He holds numerous industry designations and is dedicated to advancing diversity, sustainability, and community-focused real estate.
