GAAR is pleased that  Alan Varela, Director of the City of Albuquerque Planning Department, visited for a special presentation titled: “What It Takes to Turn a Boat: The Restructuring of the Planning Department and the Results.”

In this session, Director Varela provided REALTORS® with a behind-the-scenes look at how the Planning Department has been restructured to improve service, enhance efficiency, and streamline processes that directly impact Albuquerque’s housing and development landscape.

Attendees gained insight into:

• How recent structural changes affect development and permitting timelines
• What improvements have been made to customer service and communication
• The City’s vision for planning and growth moving forward
• Participated in a brief Q&A 

This session offered a valuable opportunity for REALTORS® to better understand the City’s planning direction and its impact on future real estate activity in the Albuquerque area.
